Bharatanatyam Dance

This is my first post on Blogger. I'm here to write something about 'Dance'.

DANCE is a passion for me, its my life.

When I was 2 years old I started learning about Dance. It was started with "BHARATANATYAM" (Bengali- ভরতনাট্ট্যম).
So, in my first post I want to describe something about this form of dance.

              BHARATANATYAM (Bengali- ভরতনাট্ট্যম)

This is a Indian Classical Dance, originated in Tamil Nadu(South India). It's started with some 'Adavus'(Basic Steps of Bharatanatyam) for beginners.
  • Followings are the ten important Adavus that a new student is asked to practice thoroghly:
  1. Tatta Adavu
  2. Natta Adavus
  3. Mardita Adavus
  4. Tattimitti Adavus
  5. Tirumanam Adavus
  6. Murka Adavus
  7. Jyoti Adavus
  8. Kuditamitta Adavu
  9. Mandi Adavu
  10. Sarikal Adavu
Without learning these Adavus a student can not perform Bharatanatyam Dance as well. These all Adavus is the basic of this form of dance.  As just need to know about the alphabets to write a word. These ten Adavus are the alphabets of Bharatanatyam.

  •   Now some leg postures in Bharatanatyam are:
SAMAPADAM
  1. SAMAPADAM: It is the basic posture in Bharatantyam in which the body should be straight, legs slightly bent at knees and toes facing sideways.
    ARAMANDI
    2. ARAMANDI:  This is one of the hardest and important posture of Bharatanatyam. This 'Aramandi' means Half-sitting. Almost every steps of Bharatanatyam is depends on this posture. In this posture, the heels are joined together, the toes of both legs are pointed to the opposite direction, a straight line should form between the two toes. Then at the same position of legs, dancer should bent legs from knees for half sitting. The knees are also pointed to the opposite position like toes. Finally should maintain a gap of two fingers between the heels.
    MUZHUMANDI
    3.  MUZHUMANDI:  In this posture, should sits down completely maintaining the same leg position of ARAMANDI.
    SWASTIKA
    4. SWASTIKA: This is the posture which is performed in ARAMANDI or SAMAPADAM position, keep right leg on the toes across the left as flat.
    PRENKHANA
    5.  PRENKHANA: This is the posture, introduced in NATTA ADAVUS. One leg in Aramandi and other will stretched to the side on heel
